Let's face it; a lot of people rely on other websites to make their teams. I mean, it's okay to go to Smogon and copy what they have, but learning how to make your own pokemon helps you become a better battler and understand the game a lot more. It's really not that hard to do, whether you want to believe it or not, so don't use that as an excuse for your laziness. (;
Well let's go ahead and get started.
Obviously, we're gonna have to start from scratch.
So, let's pick any pokemon. Here's a good one.
The first thing you do, every time, is look at its base stats.
HP: 95
Atk: 75
Def: 80
SpA: 100
SpD: 110
Spe: 30
Hmm. Not bad. It looks like slowking has some good defenses, and some decent special attack.
Let's go ahead and build on that, shall we?
We'll make slowking a special wall, with some special attack added in.
So what nature should we give it?
Since we won't be using attack, and we need lots of special defence, we'll use a (-Atk, +SpD) nature, which turns out to be calm.
Next, the item. It's a wall, so we'll go ahead and give it lefties.
Next comes the hardest part, for some people.
What EVs will we give it?
Let's just think for a second. It's a wall, so it'll need some HP (unless your name is blissey). It's a special wall, so we'll need some special defense EVs too.
And don't forget about that special attack. We should probably add some EV's for that too.
So, we have HP, SpD, and SpA.
It's HP is already pretty decent, so let's go ahead and max out SpD. 252 EVs in SpD.
Now, let's get that SpA in. We want our Slowking to be mostly a wall, but it needs to be able to hit. 64 EV's in SpA.
Let's dump the rest in HP. 192 EV's in HP.
Oh, I almost forgot! Slowking has two abilities. Let's use Own Tempo.
Let's review:
Slowking / Own Tempo / Leftovers / Calm
EVs: 192 HP / 64 SpA / 252 SpD
-
-
-
-
All that's left is the moveset.
We didn't put EV's in SpA for nothing! Let's find a good special move to use, with STAB if possible...
How about surf? That's a great start.
- Surf
-
-
-
Let's pack one more special move, in case of a poke with water absorb or something...
Hmm. We actually have a lot of choices. Ice beam, Flamethrower, and HP electric are some.
They all get good coverage, so this all depends on what kind of team you have and what you have left to counter.
Let's use HP electric.
- Surf
- HP electric
-
-
A good wall has a healing move. Slack off is an awesome one.
- Surf
- HP electric
- Slack Off
-
One more slot! You have the basics, so a good status move would probably be pretty good in this slot.
Yawn is a good move to force switches, so let's use that in the final slot!
Slowking / Own Tempo / Leftovers / Calm
EVs: 192 HP / 64 SpA / 252 SpD
- Surf
- HP electric
- Slack Off
- Yawn
Okay, now how long did that take?
In a few minutes time, we have a special wall that easily takes special hits and forces switches as well to heal up.
Takes care of most specials and gyarados with HP electric (to name the basics), and hitting lots of stuff for neutral at the least, with some power.
Eh, who needs speed? You don't. If you want it though, use it on a trick room team. xD
I hope this helps a teeny bit at least. It's a simple process, really. =)
